TOPIC: HOW TO HEAR FROM GOD
SCRIPTURE: I will hear what God the Lord will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly.
Psalm 85:8
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The Voice of God is consistent with the Word of God.
One of the most important things that can happen to anyone is knowing what God is saying and doing it.
In my own life, hearing God, knowing the Will of God, or knowing the Mind of God is the reason for our Ministry.
Besides Ministry, hearing the Voice of God or Divine Direction was instrumental to my getting married to the right person. Knowing clearly the Voice of God was the reason I got married to my wife. If I hadn’t heard God, the story would have been different today.
God’s leading also brought us to where we are in Ministry today. If I did not hear God, many people wouldn’t have known me, let alone the name of our Ministry.
Beloved, it is important for us to understand what God wants us to do with our lives.
So, in today’s study, we shall be examining the things that will facilitate our hearing or receiving from God.
Be filled with the Word of God.
The Word of God is the surest way of hearing God. If you are filled with the Word of God continually, you can know whether what you hear is from God or not. The truth is, the Voice of God is consistent with the Word of God. Anything that is not consistent with the Word of God cannot be the Voice of God.
Be committed to doing what is written.
While seeking to know what God is saying, be committed to doing what is written. There are many things to do with the Word of God. Continue to do what has been written as you listen for what He is saying. Identify what the Word of God tells you to do for God to do what you are expecting Him to do.
Don’t expect God to speak to you the same way He speaks to another person.
Don’t expect God to speak to you the same way someone else says God speaks to them, because that may get you confused and discouraged. If you read the account of the birth of Jesus in Matthew 2:1-11, you will notice that an angel spoke to the shepherds about the birth of Jesus, but God used the stars to speak to the wise men about the birth of Jesus.
Don’t be prejudiced regarding what you want to hear from God.
Don’t decide what you are expecting to hear before God says anything. The meaning is, it is difficult to hear God when you have already decided what you want Him to say. I heard from Catherine Kuhlman that the easiest way to hear God is when you don’t have a choice in the matter.
Beloved, don’t get discouraged when God appears silent; you may be on the right track, and there is no need to speak, or there may be something He said before that you have not yet done. Trust God to speak to you and be patient when God appears to be silent.
REMEMBER THIS: The Voice of God is consistent with the Word of God.
